Scandinavia covers several countries, and Five Stars
of Scandinavia offers tours of each. So if you are looking for an escorted
tour of Scandinavia, look no further. One of the most popular of these tours
is the 15-day Viking Capitals & Fjords of Norway. This highlights the Nordic
Capitals. There are times to explore the towns and cities, short cruises
between the areas, and beautiful waterfalls, fjords, mountains and glaciers
are featured along the way. There is more information on this experience on
the Escorted Tour page. Trips to the other areas of Scandinavia can be found
on the Escorted Tour and the Semi-Escorted pages. We also offer many
tours to Norway,
Denmark,
Finland,
Iceland,
Sweden,
tours of Russia
and
adventure travel.
Five Stars of Scandinavia offers both fully escorted and semi-escorted tour packages
for
summer and
winter tours to Finland. Visit historical towns and villages, castles and cathedrals, and view breathtaking forests, seascapes and lakes. Find all of these in the Programs pages, and read the details of these tours. Go to our Contact page with any questions you may have before reserving your escorted tour of
Scandinavia.
Fjords, cities and coast in Norway
Norway
is a wildly beautiful country of snow-capped mountains and deep glacier-carved
fjords. The astounding scenery of the southwestern fjord region, now on the
UNESCO World Heritage site, is the main attraction for tourists. There are many
rail journeys, combining train rides, including the famous
Flam Railway,
among one of the dramatic train rides in the world, with cruises on the
Sognefjord, the Aurland and Naeroy fjord. Perhaps the most popular excursion in
Norway is the "Norway
in a Nutshell" tour, starting in Oslo with
the
Bergenbanen mountain
train across the scenic Hardangervidda National Park, the spectacular Flam
Railway through the
Flam valley to Flam,
continuing with an unforgettable fjord cruise on the spectacular Aurlandsfjord
and the Naeroyfjord branches, the steep Stalheim Canyon Road with a breathtaking
view (summer season only), and the picturesque coastal city of
Bergen.
'The Land of the Midnight Sun', with its long summer days, is not only for
nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, but offers a rich cultural heritage from
the Vikings, the traditional nomadic Sami people of the remote northern regions,
and world-renowned artists such as Edvard Munch. Principle cities of interest
are Oslo, the prettily sited capital; the historic trading port of Bergen,
situated on the fjords and gateway to the Fjords; and hilly
Tromsø within the
Arctic Circle, the centre of the
Northern Lights activity. They are pleasant,
low-key cities that offer a good range of museums, historical sights and unique
architecture.
The
Norwegian Coastal Voyage
or Hurtigruten today is a fascinating mixture of first-class passenger vessels
and local working ships. Every day of the year, a ship leaves Bergen on the
11-day voyage round trip
Bergen
- Kirkenes - Bergen. Calling at 35 ports, Hurtigruten
is still the lifeline along the west coast of Norway, a part of coastal life for
more than 100 years. Enjoy breathtaking scenery of sheer mountain cliffs,
snow-covered peaks, dramatic fjords, waterfalls, islands and scattered
settlements with sparse population. The Norwegian Coastal Voyage has always been
there, has always arrived and has always been reliable for more than 100 years.
Passengers with less time may choose a one-way voyage: the
7-day northbound journey
embarking in Bergen and ending in Kirkenes, or the
6-day southbound return
from Kirkenes to Bergen.
Five Stars of Scandinavia offers one of the most
comprehensive tour and cruise packages for all of Scandinavia, Spitsbergen and
Greenland!
