Day 1: Depart
the U.S.
Leave on your overnight flight for
Buenos Aires.
Day 2: Buenos
Aires
Morning arrival. Transfer to your
hotel. Rest of the day at your
leisure. [B/D]
Day 3: Buenos Aires-Puerto Madryn-Embarkation
After breakfast, transfer to airport
for flight to Puerto Madryn;
transfer to the MS Nordnorge.
Orientation talk onboard. [B/D]
Days 4-6: At Sea
During the sail to the Falkland
Islands, you will enjoy lectures
about the wildlife and history of
this archipelago of 700 islands.
It's an ecosystem that supports an
astounding array of sub-Antarctic
species: 12 species of albatross,
many varieties of petrel, six
species of penguins, elephant seals,
fur seals and southern sea lions.

Days 7: Stanley
The ship will call at Stanley, the
capital of the Falklands. Explore
the town on your own, or take a
guided tour. Optional excursions.

Day 8: Sounders Island-West Point
Island
Sounders Island features miles of
spectacular black-browed albatross
colonies and rock hopper penguins.
West Point Island, known for its
wildlife, fur seals and sea lions, a
landscape reminiscent of South Devon
and, on its western side, the
highest sea cliffs in the
archipelago. [B/L/D]
Days 9-10 At Sea
While at sea, you'll be diverted by
lectures about South Georgia's
extraordinary history and unique
beauty. You'll learn how it is
bounded by the snow-capped
Allarydyce and Salvesen Mountains,
and about its blue glacier ice and
emerald green bays. [B/L/D]
Days 11-12: South Georgia
Disembark in Grytviken, an abandoned
whaling station. Wander through the
town, and visit the old manager's
villa, now the South Georgia Museum,
and the little white church brought
all the way from Norway. If you go
to the cemetery, where the great
explorer, Sir Earnest Shackleton, is
buried, you are likely to spy young
elephant seal pups, king and gentoo
penguins, and timid pintail ducks.
You'll also visit Cooper Bay, known
for its colonies of macaroni and
chinstrap penguins. [B/L/D]
Days 13-14: At Sea
During these days you'll enjoy
edifying talks about your next, much
anticipated destination-Antarctica.

Days 15-18: Antarctica
The ship will negotiate the narrow
passage between Booth Island and the
Antarctica Peninsula.
Half Moon Island,
with spectacular views of the
surrounding mountains, famous for
its large chinstrap
penguin rookery, kelp gulls, and
Antarctic terns.
Whale spotting is
also common here.
Whalers Bay
on Deception Island, with its warm
springs and black volcanic sand.
Ukrainian
Vernadsky Base, with its
abundant
bird life.
Almirante
Brown in Paradise Harbor, named
for
its beauty, with ice cliffs and
floating icebergs, home
to gentoo and chinstrap penguins.
Port
Lockroy, surrounded by
mountains, glaciers
and ice shelves, and known for its
gentoo penguins
and blue-eyed cormorants.
Neko
Harbor off Errera Channel, home
to
hundreds of gentoo penguins, Weddell
and elephant
seals, is believed to be part of
main land Antarctica.
Polish Arctowski Base in Admiralty
Bay, where
Adelie and gentoo penguins and
elephant seals can
be found.
Petermann
Island, home of the southernmost
gentoo penguin colony, blue-eyed
shags and
Adelie penguins nest here too.

Half
Moon Island, a crescent-shaped
collection
of islets sharing a sweep of shingle
beach, is a rookery
for chinstrap penguins, and home to
kelp gulls, terns,
skuas and sheathbills. Yankee
Harbor, home to a
variety of seals and an estimated
4,000 gentoo
penguin pairs. It is a common
feeding area for
whales as well.
Almirante
Brown, in Paradise Harbor, has
glorious
scenery of snowy peaks, ice cliffs
and sculpted bergs.
Port
Lockroy
is one of the top tourist sites
in
Antarctica, as well as an important
British base, where
postcards postmarked "Antarctica"
can be purchased.
Neko
Harbor's water has a fine mirror
finish, flecked
with bits of berg. There is an icy
hush to the place,
broken only by honking penguins and
the rumble of
glaciers calving into the sea.
Petermann
Island
boasts the largest known colony
of
gentoo penguins in the Antarctica
Peninsula.
Cuverville
Island boasts the largest known
colony of
gentoo penguin in the Antarctic
Peninsula.
Wilhelmina
Bay is a feeding ground for
whales and
seals.
Antarctic
Sound, where huge mile-long
tabular
icebergs can be seen. The sound is
also home to
an estimated half million Adelie
penguins as well
as gentoo penguins, leopard seals
and killer whales.
Brown
Bluff,
on the coast of the Antarctic
Sound at
the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Adelie penguins,
gentoo penguins, kelp gulls and Cape
petrels can be
found here, and Weddell seals are
regular visitors.
Day 19: At Sea
The ship will pass Cape Horn.
The cape is the southernmost point
in South America. Hear lectures
regarding Cape Horn and Antarctica.

Day 20:
Ushuaia-Disembarkation-Buenos Aires
You'll disembark at the world's
southernmost city. Transfer to the
airport for your flight to Buenos
Aires. Optional excursions. [B]
Day 21: Buenos Aires-Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the
airport for your flight to the U.S.
