Falkland Islands/Malvinas, South Georgia

This Antarctic cruise adventure program gives you the opportunity to explore Buenos Aires, the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands/Malvinas. On the Antarctic Peninsula your dream vacation includes sailing the narrow, glacier-lined Lemaire Channel, one of most beautiful passages in Antarctica, and the breathtaking Neumayer Channel with its majestic cliffs. South Georgia is one of the few places in the world where you'll get up-close to the famous King penguins and is also where you'll find the grave of great explorer Sir Earnest Shackleton; and the Falklands/Malvinas boosts a fascinating history, flora and fauna.

SPECIAL PROMOTION DEPARTURE DATE

(excluding international air from/to the U.S.): Oct 20 - Nov 08, 2008

Day 1: Depart the U.S.

Days 4-6: At Sea
During the sail to the Falkland Islands, you will enjoy lectures about the wildlife and history of this archipelago of 700 islands. [B/L/D]

Days 7: Stanley
The ship will call at Stanley, the capital of the Falklands. Explore the town on your own, or take a guided tour. Optional excursions. [B/L/D]

Day 8: Sounders Island-West Point Island
Sounders Island features miles of spectacular black-browed albatross colonies and rock hopper penguins. West Point Island, known for its wildlife, fur seals and sea lions, a landscape reminiscent of South Devon and, on its western side, the highest sea cliffs in the archipelago. [B/L/D]

Days 9-10 At Sea

Days 11-12: South Georgia
Disembark in Grytviken, an abandoned whaling station. Wander through the town, and visit the old manager's villa, now the South Georgia Museum, and the little white church brought all the way from Norway. If you go to the cemetery, where the great explorer, Sir Earnest Shackleton, is buried, you are likely to spy young elephant seal pups, king and gentoo penguins, and timid pintail ducks. You'll also visit Cooper Bay, known for its colonies of macaroni and chinstrap penguins. [B/L/D]
