General Information Onboard
Are Your Ships on our Norway Cruise Like Other Cruise Ships?
Though they are working ships as well as passenger
ships, most of the Norway Coastal Steamer ships look and
feel like cruise ships. This is especially true of
the Millennium and the Contemporary Ships, each of
which is outfitted with spacious, art-filled public
areas, exercise room, sauna, hair dryers in the
cabins, elevators, and stabilizers. Unlike
traditional cruises, however, there is no organized
entertainment on board. Mother Nature is the
entertainer! Think of us as your alternative to the
traditional Norway cruise.
What Are the Cabins Like?
Cabins aboard the ships are comfortable and cozy.
All cabins on the Millennium (except the MS
Finnmarken) and Contemporary Ships have two lower
berths, while cabins on the Mid-Generation Ships
have a mix of two lower and upper/lower berths.
Suites and junior suites are available on the
Millennium Ships (some with a balcony and Jacuzzi)
and on the Contemporary Ships. All cabins have
private facilities, except some cabins on the
Traditional Norwegian Coastal Steamer Ship. All ships, except the Traditional
Ship, have one or more cabins that are
wheelchair-accessible.

What if I Prefer a Single Cabin?
A limited selection of double cabins is available
for single occupancy. A single supplement charge is
applied in high season only, and has been eliminated
for select cabin categories in shoulder and
off-season (January to March & October to December).
Do You Have Triples?
Triple cabins are available in certain cabin
categories.
Are the Ships Suitable For Physically Challenged
Passengers?
All ships, with the exception of the MS Lofoten,
have elevators and cabins specially equipped for
physically challenged guests.
Is Smoking Permitted On Board?
There are designated smoking areas on board all the
ships: on the MS Finnmarken and all Contemporary and
Traditional ships smoking is only permitted outside;
on the two Millennium ships, MS Trollfjord and
Midnatsol on deck 5; and on the Mid-Generation
ships, the MS Narvik and MS Vesteralen, on deck D.
Smoking is not permitted, however, in the cabins or
the dining rooms.
How Will I Handle My Laundry?
All ships, except for the Traditional ship, are
equipped with self-service laundry facilities,
including irons and ironing boards. Detergent is
included in the price.
Is There a Doctor On Board?
Although the ships don't have medical facilities or
doctors on board, they are regularly in sight of
land. Should a medical emergency arise, the
reception staff will contact a doctor at the nearest
port. In addition, onboard officers are trained in
first aid and can provide emergency assistance.
Are There Travel Guides on Board?
You'll find a travel guide (courier) on board to
clarify practical details.
What is the embarkation time and place?
Embarkation in Bergen
The Norway Coastal Steamer ships depart from the Nostebryggen Quay.
Address: Nostegaten 30. Embarkation starts at 5pm
however, you can check in from 1pm, when you also
can request dinner table and your cruise card. The
waiting room hours are from 1pm-8pm. From April
1-September 30 the ship sails at 8 pm. From October
1-March 31 the ship sails at 10:30 pm. An evening
buffet meal will be served in the dining room.
Are meals included in the cruise price?
Three daily shipboard meals are included in the
Norway Cruise-Only Rates on northbound, southbound and
roundtrip journeys. Independent Vacations: buffet
breakfast, buffet lunch and set menu dinner. There
is also a cafeteria on board all ships where light
meals and snacks can be purchased (cafeteria might
be closed on weekends and public holidays).
Port-to-port bookings do not include meals.
What Currency is Accepted On Board?
Travelers Checks, American Express, Visa, and
MasterCard. Most currencies can be exchanged at
reception.
How Do I Reach the U.S. On Board, If Need Be?
All ships have pay phones and faxes. Please note:
Ships are not equipped with outlets for Internet
hook-up, though the Millennium ships and two of the
Contemporary ships, the MS Nordnorge and the MS
Nordkapp, have Internet cafés.
What About Travel Insurance?
We strongly encourage passengers to purchase travel
insurance. We offer an attractively priced policy
through Access America, see Travel Insurance.
Are There Any Seasonal Values Available in
Conjunction With the Voyage?
Shoulder and off-season on the Norwegian Coastal
Voyage (January to March and October through
December) offer attractive values. In addition to us
eliminating the single supplement in select cabin
categories, the Senior Savings discounts are highest
at this time, and cruise rates and airfares are
lower overall. There are fewer crowds at this time
too, and the same everlasting scenery.
Are There Any Special Savings For Seniors?
Members of AARP Passport enjoy attractive discounts,
from $70-$150 per cabin for select programs. All
passengers 67 years and older are entitled to a
reduction on most sailings, ranging from $95-$170
per person, as long as proof of age (in the form of
a valid passport) is presented. If proof of age is
submitted after tickets are issued, passengers will
be charged a $35 per person re-issuance fee. We
cannot grant senior reductions to spouses or
companions not yet 67 years of age.
