Snaefellsnes Peninsula - Breiðafjörður - Borgarfjörður - Reykjavik

Departures: Fridays, Jun 06, 20 / Jul 04, 25 / Aug 08, 22

Spectacular Iceland scenes

An ideal tour for those who want to get to know Iceland, its landscape, beauty, culture and history, but on a limited timescale. This tour not only takes you to some of Iceland’s world famous attractions,

such as Gullfoss, Geysir and Þingvellir, it also includes many often overlooked places, like Borgarfjörður with its hot springs, amazing waterfalls and historical sites, the Snæfellsnes peninsula with its magnificent glacier, small villages and the holy mountain Helgafell and even the numerous islands of Breiðafjörður where, according to season, you may be able to see various species of birds including shags, puffins and many others.

Highlights: Sailing around Breidafjordur Island (summer only) / Visit to Snorra-Stofan Reykholt / Shark Processing Farm

Day 1 REYKJAVÍK - GULFOSS - PINGVELLIR
We begin our tour with a short city tour of Reykjavik. Then via Hveragerði to Gullfoss which is known as the Queen of Iceland's waterfalls. We continue to the nearby famous hot spring area of Geysir. Our next stop today is at the old Parliament site at Þingvellir (Parliament fields) founded the year 930ad. From there we head north, driving through the mountain pass at Kjós, arriving in Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord). We have to go around the fjord to reach the region of Borgarfjörður, where we stay next 2 nights

Day 2 SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA (B)
Today will be spent driving around the Snæfellsnes peninsula (the peninsula of the snowy mountain) with the glacier Snæfellsjökull, where according to Jules Verne's book, the entrance to the centre of the earth can be found. We will pass Búðir, Arnarstapi, Ólafsvík, Bjarnarhöfn shark processing farm and Stykkishólmur where we embark on a boat to enjoy a 2 ½ hours boat trip around the islands of Breiðafjörður (summer only)

Day 3 BORGARFJÖRDUR - REYKJAVIK (B)
We begin with visiting Deildatunguhver, one of the world's most powerful hot spring giving 198 liters per second, some of it channeled through a vent over a distance of 30 km and 60 km to heat up villages and farms on the way. We continue with the theme water visiting Hraunfossar (lava waterfalls) where crystal clear water seemingly drops out of a 1000 years old lava field. We go via Borgarnes village and through Hvalfjörður tunnel back to Reykjavik in time for the afternoon flights to US.
