 Location
Svalbard's historic Spitsbergen Hotel is centrally located in Haugen in
Longyeardalen, with superb views across the waters of Adventfjorden and the
striking peak of Hiortfjellet. The hotel is within easy reach of the town
centre, local attractions and tax-free stores. The hotel has preserved its
historic character from the time when it was a staff centre and
entertainment venue for the mining company Store Norske Spitsbergen
Kulkompani. The hotel is closed in the winter from 15 October to 15
February.
Rooms
Spitsbergen Hotel offers contemporary guest rooms, suites and one room
specially designed for disabled guests. All the suites are themed, with
clear links to the hotel's history. All rooms have their own bathroom /WC,
TV, radio, telephone and mini-bar.
Facilities
Funktionærmessen Restaurant serves superb meals, with views of
Longyeardalen, the town and the striking Hiortfjellet. With a kitchen
grounded in French culinary traditions, Funktionærmessen Restaurant offers a
high quality menu. In addition to international dishes, the restaurant also
offers arctic specialties based on ingredients such as seal, whale,
reindeer, grouse, char and occasionally polar bear. In the Funken Bar you
can enjoy tasty snacks in pleasant surroundings.
Surroundings
Spitsbergen Funken hotel on Svalbard is an excellent starting-point for
those who will experience untouched nature and arctic wilderness! In
cooperation with our tour operator department at Spitsbergen Travel AS , we
arrange exciting activities both summer and winter. We can offer for example
ski-, snowmobile-, weasel-, dog sledge-, or ice grotto trips in the winter.
In the summer you can choose from guided hikes, fossil picking and glacier
walks. We can also offer daytrips with boat to the Russian settlement
Barentsburg, or to spectacular glacier fronts, or perhaps an adventurous day
among drifting ice, seals and birds in zodiacs or kayaks. Throughout the
year, one of our local guides can show you one of the northernmost coalmines
in the world, or take you on a cultural and historical visit in
Longyearbyen.
