The destination is the north of Iceland, an entirely different world from southern Iceland. Thrill at the wonders of Iceland's "Diamond Circle," an alpine region of volcanic marvels, deep canyons, thundering waterfalls and an amazing bird-filled lake. You will also see how life is in this lovely area so close to the Arctic Circle

Departure from Reykjavík through Hvalfjörður tunnel through the fertile Borgarfjörður region. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring and the spectacular waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. We continue our journey to the north of Iceland. Driving through the rolling farmlands of Húnavatnssýslur we stop at the farm and horse breeding center of Gauksmýri for an introduction of the Icelandic horse and it's special qualities such as the famous five gaits. We continue to the beautiful Skagafjörður district which played a large role in the tumultuous 13th century history of Iceland. Onwards to Akureyri, the capital of the north, located just 60 km below the Arctic Circle.

Drive to the fishing village of Húsavík where you have the option of going on a memorable whale watching tour, where Minke whales are frequently seen. Continue to Ásbyrgi, "Fortress of the gods", a horseshoe-shaped canyon, formed as the result of a catastrophic flood. Drive onwards to Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall, 44m high and 100m wide, where up to 1500 tons of water, mud and sand rumble into Jökulsárgljúfur, the greatest and the most spectacular canyon in the country. Drive to Lake Mývatn, known for its beauty and geological wonders. Overnight in Mývatn area.

Day 4 MAGICAL MÝVATN (B, D)
Explore the natural wonders of the unique Lake Mývatn area, which has been sculpted by volcanic eruptions through the ages. Lake Mývatn is one of the largest lakes in Iceland and renowned for its rich birdlife. It is thought to nest more species of duck than any other place in Iceland or in the world. We visit the boiling solfatara pits at Hverarönd by Námafjall. View of Hverfjall, one of the most striking and regular formations of explosive craters in Iceland and one of the earth's largest. We take a look at the underground bathing springs Grjótagjá cave, formerly the public bath of the area. On to Dimmuborgir "The Dark castles", a true labyrinth of lava formation. Top the day off with a relaxing bath in the Mývatn's nature baths. Overnight in Mývatn area.
