Spitsbergen Expedition Cruise on M/V Polar Star

Expedition Cruises with Guides, Lecturers and Zodiac Landings

Towards the very top of the Northern Hemisphere lies the Svalbard Archipelago. It is the most accessible high Arctic area in the world, yet its vast expanses of pristine nature appear almost completely untouched by humans. The best way to explore Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago is by small ship, and this expedition cruise to Svalbard’s remote northern and eastern regions on board the MV Polar Star takes place throughout the northern summer months, when the sun never sets.

An 8-day expedition on board an Arctic vessel to Svalbard’s remote northern and eastern regions. During the course of one week you will be able to experience the wildlife and fierce environment of the Arctic Ocean. The birdlife is so remarkable that even the most blasé ornithologists are completely astonished. You will also see seals, in all probability whales and walruses and the ‘king’ himself; the polar bear, in his natural habitat. An expedition cruise for those who wish to experience drift ice and, most likely, polar bears.

The Expedition Leader and the guides will share with you their knowledge of the wildlife, Arctic conditions and history of the area. You will discover hunters shelters and other evidence of the fierce conditions endured by the early polar pioneers. We go ashore one or two times every day by zodiacs. Shore excursions normally last two or three hours.

Informative talks and lectures in the ship’s panoramic lounge will allow us to learn about the natural environment, geology, wildlife and exciting polar heritage as we sail. An expedition on board an Arctic vessel to Svalbard's remote northern and eastern regions. A tour for those who wish to experience drift ice and, most likely, polar bears.
