On December 10, 2004, Color Line's new flagship, M/S Color Fantasy, was
officially christened in Oslo. More than 1,000 guests, an international
press corps and a large crowd were present when the ship's godmother, Anne Sidsel Sunde, smashed the champagne bottle against the ship's hull. Color
Line took over the ship from Aker Finnyards in Turku, Finland, at an
official ceremony on 3 December.
The new ship started to operate the Oslo-Kiel service on a regular schedule
from Sunday 12 December, and replaced M/S Prinsesse Ragnhild. The new ship,
of 74.600 GT, is more than twice the size of M/S Kronprins Harald and nearly
twice as big as M/S The World. The ship has a spa-center, a water park,
casino, cinema, show lounge, several discos and restaurants for different
age groups and preferences, a separate conference section and an exhibition
area. There are different activities for small children. In the duty free
section the guests will find fashion stores and other specialty shops.
Most of the attractions and stores are located close to the large internal
“street”, which is 120 meter long, with almost nine meters to the ceiling,
extending through three decks. The new cruise ferry will operate the
Oslo-Kiel service together with M/S Kronprins Harald. It has capacity for
2770 guests, almost twice as much as M/S Kronprins Harald. The ship will
have a large capacity for conferences, and shall also meet the need for
transportation of cargo and cars between Norway and Germany. The car decks
on board have room for a row of cars measuring 2.5 kilometers, consisting of
passenger cars and trailers.
With the M/S Color Fantasy, Color Line, as a major European shipping line,
seeks to set a new standard for modern passenger ships, thus carrying
Norway’s leading position in international shipping further. The M/S Color
Fantasy will provide two-day cruise experiences unparalleled among cruise
ferries in Norway as well as internationally. The M/S Color Fantasy brings
on a host of experiences, from total well-being at the Color Spa & Fitness
Center, to a 120 meter long shopping and restaurant arcade. The world’s
largest cruise liner with a car deck will offer more than 15 restaurants and
night clubs, a conference center equipped for 850 guests and an exhibition
area covering almost 0.4 acre. The M/S Color Fantasy will provide efficient
and environmentally sustainable transportation between Norway and
Continental Europe.
