excursion by rail takes you through some of the most
picturesque
scenery in the fjord
region of Norway. It is especially magnificent
during the autumn, when waterfalls are roaring,
and mountains
and forests are changing to vivid colors. Leave Oslo
on the scenic Bergenbanen across snow-capped
mountains of the Hardanger Vidda, via Geilo and
Finse to Myrdal. Ride on the world famous Flåm
Railway,
descending through the wild Flåm Valley to
Flåm, passing steep mountain cliffs, waterfalls and
quaint villages.
Explore the fjord village of Flåm;
enjoy the stay at the beautiful Fretheim Hotel,
nestled against the mountain side
along the fjord.
Continue the next day with a spectacular cruise from
the Aurlandsfjord into the Naeroyfjord, the
narrowest fjord in Europe. Surrounded by snow-capped
mountains, the boat winds its way through the
narrowest
part of the Sognefjord, passing old
farmsteads and colorful villages along the shores,
before reaching the fjord village
of Gudvangen.
Continue by
bus via the steep, spectacular hairpin turns of the
Stalheim Canyon Road, with views of
the Stalheim and Sivle
waterfalls, to the Stalheim Hotel. A
brief stop here to enjoy the view, continue to Voss,
where
you join the Bergenbanen bound for Bergen,
capital of the Fjords. Norway - a true Wonderland
all year!
Day 1
OSLO
Individual arrival in Oslo. Afternoon at leisure.
Overnight at the Opera Hotel, ideally located in the
city center next to the Central Train Station.

Day 2 OSLO - FLÅM RAILWAY - FLÅM (B, D)
Breakfast at the hotel (please request an ealry
breakfast). Early morning departure on
the scenic Bergenbanen through the Hallingdal
Valley, via Geilo and across a mountain plateau to
Myrdal. Ride the famous Flåm Railway, descending
2,840 feet in 12 miles, into the wild Flåm Valley,
passing spectacular scenery of waterfalls, mountain
cliffs, tiny settlements and farms. Upon arrival in
Flåm you have the afternoon at leisure. Check in at
the beautiful Fretheim Hotel* located across from
the Railway Station. This evening enjoy a delicious
buffet dinner at the hotel. Overnight at the
Fretheim Hotel.
Day 3 FLÅM - VOSS - BERGEN (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure. Flåm is
the beginning of an unforgettable 2-hour boat
journey along the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord. You
will pass the fjord villages of Aurland and Undredal
with Scandinavia's smallest Stave church, dating
from 1147. Shortly after passing the Stigen mountain
farm the boat will turn into the Nærøyfjord, the
narrowest, most dramatic, and yet the most beautiful
of the secondary fjords to the Sognefjord.
Picturesque farms and villages are nestled along the
steep mountainsides, reaching peaks up to 4500 ft.
The cruise ends in Gudvangen Continue with a 1-hour
bus ride up the narrow Nærøy Valley, across the
steep hairpin bends of the Stalheim Canyon Road,
descending to the fjord village of Voss. Here you
will reconnect with the Bergenbanen arriving from
Oslo and Myrdal. A short train ride brings you to
the colorful Hanseatic city of Bergen. Overnight at
your hotel, ideally located near the waterfront.

Day 4 BERGEN (B)
Enjoy a lovely breakfast buffet before checkout. End
of program.
Additional nights in Bergen or
the Fjord region available.
* During the winter season, the Heimly Pensjonat
will be used instead of the Fretheim Hotel, which
only operates during the summer season.
Summer season begins April 01 through September
30th.
