EXCURSIONS KANGERLUSSUAQ

Kangerlussuaq is mainly known as the airport and the international gateway to Greenland. However, there are much more to be seen here. Incredible sights, including fertile mountains, beautiful lakes and turbulent rivers. Kangerlussuaq is the only destination in Greenland where you can actually drive by car to the inland Ice Cap - a three million cubic kilometers lump of ice! Kangerlussuaq is also the place in Greenland where the Arctic wild life best can be experienced. The area is a resort for reindeer and musk oxen but also arctic foxes and arctic birds live in the region.

K1 Sightseeing Kangerlussuaq
The sight seeing tour around Kangerlussuaq gives you a thorough introduction to the town and its history. We also visit the harbour, the science village Kellyville, the sledge dog park and last but not least the museum.

K2 the Inland Ice Cap by 4 x 4 Vehicle
Perhaps one of the most popular excursion in Greenland!
A tour by 4-wheel-drive cars through an Arctic desert, along rivers, through old glacier valleys and over small mountains directly to the Inland Ice Cap. We will be driving on narrow mountain tracks in slow speed. En route we make several photo stops, walk to some view points to overlook the fantastic Arctic landscape. Our destination is the steep glacier front of The Russell Glacier, where you will experience calving glaciers, mountains of ice falling off with big thunder-like noises.
Alternatively we might be driving to point 660 where you have the possibility to walk on the Inland Ice Cap. (Actual destination will be decided just before departure depending on the weather.)

K3 Musk Oxen and Reindeer Safari
By minibuses to an area where we often see musk oxen and reindeer - the animals are wild but very often it is possible to get quite close for good photo opportunities.
Please note that we are going into the wilderness; it is not a zoo. Therefore we cannot guarantee that you’ll see the animals, but the viewing rate is generally high; more than 90% over the year.

K5 Dinner at the Rowing Club
Transfer from the hotel to an area with ruins of an Eskimo autumn Camp used by reindeer hunters. The guide will tell about the Eskimo's hunting. Then a short walk to Restaurant Rowing Club where you will be served a 3-course dinner in Nature surroundings. After dinner transfer back to the hotel.
