Our
Winter Fairytale Safari brings you to the heart of
Finnish Lapland, the center of the Sami life and
culture. Winter begins early in Lapland, turning
this exotic region know for its fells, lakes, rivers
and forests into winter wonderland. Snow brightens
up the scene as the days grow shorter, lakes and
streams begin to freeze around the middle of
November, and the ski-tracks and slopes remain open
right up to May. The Northern Lights put on a
dazzling display of colors on clear nights. This
spectacle of the Aurora Borealis can be seen in
northernmost Lapland 200 nights a year.
Saariselkä ski resort in
northern Lapland is famous for its gently rolling
fells and unspoiled wilderness. The optional
excursions in Saariselkä offer the possibility to
experience the real winter, as you travel by
snowmobile through forests and over fells, covered
by a mantle of pure snow. You can also visit a local
husky farm and get to know the friendly husky dogs.
Rovaniemi is known as the home town of Santa Claus.
In Kemi, you will travel by snowmobile on the vast
expanse of ice for a rendezvous with the icebreaker
Sampo and take part in its journey through the
frozen sea. During this excursion you will also
visit a site of Lapp ”kota” tents and get a chance
to drive a sledge pulled by a reindeer.

Day 1 IVALO - SAARISELKÄ (D, Private Car)
A Land of Snow and Fells
Individual arrival in Ivalo. After a short ride
from Ivalo airport, you arrive in Saariselkä.
After check-in, you can relax in the warmth of a
genuine Finnish sauna. Dinner and overnight.
Accommodation: Hotel Riekonlinna
Day 2 SAARISELKÄ - SNOWMOBILE SAFARI (B, D,
snowmobile)
Traveling Through Winter Wonderland
Optional Tour: Snowmobile safari to the Fells
You will be shown how to handle a snowmobile.
Then, two persons to a snowmobile, you drive
through the beautiful scenery around the area of
Saariselkä. (Supplement for single use of
snowmobile). You enjoy a coffee break by an open
fire in the wilderness. The driving distance is
about 20 km
Duration: 2 hours

Day 3 SAARISELKÄ - HUSKY SAFARI (B, D)
Optional Tour: Husky Safari through the Fell
Area
Experience a ride in a sledge pulled by a team
of husky dogs, traveling through the spectacular
forest and fell scenery. The silence around you
is enormous, broken only by the sound of the
sledge against the snow. On the way enjoy a
lunch by the warm open fire in a Lapp ‘Kota’
tent. After lunch return to hotel.

Day 4 SAARISELKÄ - ROVANIEMI - SANTA WORKSHOP
(B, L, D, Private Car)
Across the Land of the Lapps
After breakfast, your driver will take you to
Rovaniemi. Enjoy lunch on the way in an idyllic
log house restaurant at Hotel Luosto. Before
arrival in Rovaniemi, you cross the Arctic
Circle and visit the Santa Claus workshop,
meeting Santa in person. In the shopping
village, you can make a browse around for local
handicrafts and souvenirs. Dinner and overnight.

in Rovaniemi
Day 5 ROVANIEMI - KEMI (B, L, D, Private Car)
Through Arctic Ice
Transfer by private car to Kemi, Finnish
Lapland's seaport situated on the Gulf of
Bothnia. Leave your luggage at your hotel and
walk a few steps to the Safari Office, where you
will be equipped with appropriate clothing. Set
out, two persons to a snowmobile, for a ride to
meet up with the Arctic Icebreaker Sampo. Step
on board and take part in a memorable cruise
through the frozen sea. It is an amazing
experience to see the ship crushing its way
through the ice that can be many meters thick.
After lunch on board, a guided tour of the ship
will be given. The brave can experience a dip in
the sea amidst the freshly broken ice, safe and
warm in a special survival suit.
After the cruise, get on the snowmobile again
and ride to a site of traditional Lapp 'kota'
tents, where you have a chance to try driving a
sledge pulled by reindeer. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 KEMI - DEPARTURE (B, Private Car)
Good-bye to Lapland
After breakfast it is time to say Good-bye to
Lapland. Transfer to Kemi airport for the return
flight to Helsinki (flight not included).
Christmas and New Years is a special time in
Lapland, and the hotel is celebrating the
festivities with special activities and
