 Sel Hotel Myvatn***

Sel Hotel MyvatnLocation
Hótel Mývatn provides you with an ideal location from which to experience the wonders of Mývatn and its surroundings. The hotel is wonderfully placed with some of the region's pearls such as the pseudo-craters within a couple of minutes' distance. The magnificent view from the hotel covers the Skútustaðagígar pseudo-craters and Lake Mývatn. Indeed, looking out through the restaurant's window you'll see the pseudo-craters.

The hotel is well equipped for receiving all kinds of recreational and professional groups, both in terms of the facilities of the hotel itself and other activities which are available in the vicinity. The location of the hotel also makes it ideal for conferences and meetings of all kinds.

Rooms
The hotel has 35 rooms which all have a bathroom, telephone, radio and TV. Each room can also be connected to internet. All the rooms are beautifully furnished with solid mahogany and the aim is to create a friendly atmosphere for the guests.
.
Restaurant By Lake Mývatn
The restaurant (for 80-150 guests) offers a great variety of food and drinks, everything from a hot dog to elaborate festival dinner buffets.
The hotel is specialized for conference- and incentive tours and is a great choice for all kinds of winter activities.

There are also several good hiking trails in the vicinity.
You can find a shop and a gas station at Skútustaðir and a swimming pool in the vicinity. History museum Myvatnssafn is also close by. It shows the story of life at Lake Mývatn, complete with photos and artifacts. Furthermore at Skutustadir there is a church, built from Norwegian wood in the year 1863.

Surroundings

The Mývatn area has about 470 inhabitants, of which approximately 200 live in the village Reykjahlíð. Before, people used to live on the proceeds of the land by farming and fishing for trout in Lake Mývatn but it has changed radically in the last few decades. A diatomite factory was established in the late sixties and soon became the biggest source of employment in Mývatn. The geothermal power plant at Krafla also provides for quite a few positions for the locals and tourism is a steadily growing business. A few hotels can be found around the countryside as well as restaurants, camping sites and other small companies connected to tourism.
