Zodiac Landings
Five days of adventure,
including a visit to Longyearbyen, and a voyage
on board MS Nordstjernen along the north-
west
coast of Spitsbergen, with its beautiful fjords
surrounded by jagged peaks and huge glaciers.
Spitsbergen is the
largest island in
the Svalbard archipelago. Thanks to the Gulf
Stream, its west coast, some 400 kilometers
long, is
surprisingly rich in
wildlife, and has in places some quite luxuriant
vegetation, with tufts of beautiful small
flowers
growing up between
the stones. The many historical monuments to be
found all along this coastline give testimony
to a heroic polar
history, and to the hardiness of the hunters in
earlier days. The first land seen by the
Dutchman
Willem Barents in
1596 was this northwest coast, and its
impressive peaks inspired the name Spitsbergen.
A coastal
adventure cruise
provides an excellent way of experiencing these
parts of Svalbard. Our ship, the MS
Nordstjernen,
is small enough to
come in to shore where larger vessels cannot,
but is big enough to offer the comfort that many
passengers want when
traveling by sea in Arctic regions.

comfortable rooms and private facilities.

Individual arrival in Longyearbyen.
Sunday 09:55 Alt. SK4414 from
Oslo, via Tromsø (arr. 11:45, dep. 12.25), arr.
14:05, airport shuttle (NOK 50,- per person)
20:00 SK4496 from Oslo, direct flight, arrival 22:50
(Monday), transfer to Spitsbergen Hotel included
21:45 SK4492 from Tromsø, arrival 23:25 (Monday),
transfer to Spitsbergen Hotel included (connecting
flight from Oslo to Tromsø; to SK4432 18:30-20:20).

Day 2 Mon LONGYEARBYEN - BARENTSBURG (B, L, D)
07:00 Breakfast is served
until 10.00. Check-out time
11:00 Welcome meeting at the hotel
12:00 Transfer from the hotel to the harbour,
embarkation M/S Nordstjernen
13:00 Sailing time from Longyearbyen
16:00 Arrival time Barentsburg. Sightseeing.
Individual visits at the Pomor museum (NOK 40,-)
17:00 Folklore show at the Cultural house (tickets
included)
18:00 Time to look around, and for souvenir-shopping
(cash only, in NOK, Euro and USD). Return to the
ship by walking the 263 steps down to the harbour.
18:30 Sailing time from Barentsburg
At night time we sail out of the Isfjord, then
northbound along the coast of the Prins Karls
Forland passing the Kongsfjord and “The seven
Icebergs” before reaching Spitsbergen’s northwest
corner.

Day 3 Tue WOODFJORD - MONACO GLACIER (B, L, D)
Depending on the weather- and
ice-conditions we sail to the Woodfjord area. In the
Liefdefjord we can see the astonishing front of the
Monaco glacier. Tender boat landing in the
afternoon. When we have good ice-conditions we cross
the 80th parallel and sail up to the Moffen Island.
In the late afternoon we sail pass the Raudfjord and
south into the Smeerenburgfjord, where we at night
time/early morning pass the well known
Magdalenefjord and Wagonway glacier.

Day 4 Wed KROSSFJORD - NY ÅLESUND (B, L, D)
Alternatively cruising in the Krossfjord where we
spend the day doing landings, visiting cultural
interests, bird cliffs and glacier fronts
20:30 Arrival time Ny-Ålesund. Guided walk in town,
with information about the history of coalmining
and exploration. Time for individual walk around,
museum visit and souvenir shopping (credit cards
accepted).
22:30 Sailing time from Ny-Ålesund. We cross the
Kongsfjord to Blomstrand, where we disembark/embark
passengers joining Spitsbergen Trekking.
At night we continue
southbound along the coast of Prins Karls Forland
and return to the Isfjord.

Day 5 Thu RETURN TO LONGYEARBYEN (B, L, D)
10:00 Approximately arrival time in Longyearbyen.
Disembarkation
10:30 Sightseeing in Longyearbyen, visit at the
Svalbard Museum and Galleri Svalbard
13:15 Lunch-snack
14:15 Check-in at Spitsbergen Hotel. The afternoon
on your own, for a walk in Longyearbyen or shopping.
18:30 Farewell dinner in the restaurant at
Spitsbergen Hotel.

03:30 Night transfer to the
airport included. (Continental breakfast must be
booked in the hotel reception for early departures

Day 3 Fri MAGDALENEFJORD (B, L, D)
At night/early morning we pass “The
Seven Icebergs” before reaching
Spitsbergen’s northwest corner.
Arrival in the Magdalenefjord in the
morning. In the afternoon we cruise
further north along the north west
coast of Spitsbergen making landings
at interesting sites, arriving in
the Raudfjord late evening where we
disembark passengers joining
Spitsbergen Trekking.

Day 4 Sat WOODFJORD -

Depending on the weather- and
ice-conditions we sail to the

southbound along the coast of Prins
Karls Forland and return to the
Isfjord.
