ICELAND - WONDERS OF THE SOUTH 2006

8 days / 7 nights, Reykjavik - Þingvellir - Gullfoss - Geysir -

Skógafoss - Seljalandsfoss - Þjórsárdalur - Reykjavik

The ideal short break during the off-season. This 8-day tour introduces you to the major sites of South Iceland. Highlights include the old Viking Parliament site of Þingvellir National Park, the wonderland of Geysir with Strokkur, Gullfoss Waterfall, the Golden Waterfall, one of the natural wonders of the world. On to the south shore with the waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, the southern glaciers and the black volcanic sand beaches at Vík. Your visit to Iceland would be incomplete without visiting the Skogar Folk Museum. The 8-day tour offers plenty of time in Reykjavik for shopping and excursions. Spend four nights in Reykjavik and three nights in the southern countryside.

 

Day 1 REYKJAVÍK/ARRIVAL
Transfer from Keflavík airport to Guest House in Reykjavík.

Day 2 ÞINGVELLIR - GULLFOSS - GEYSIR (B)
We visit Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss which is known as the Queen of Iceland’s waterfalls and the nearby famous hot spring area of Geysir. Arriving at your accommodation in the afternoon where we will stay for the next three nights.

 



Day 3 SOUTH SHORE (B)
Today we drive to Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and we also visit the Folk Museum at Skógar, one of the best folk museums in Scandinavia. Then we head on for Vík village and to Sólheimajökull where we can walk up to the glacier.
 


Day 4 ÞJÓRSÁRDALUR (B)
We drive through pasture land and valleys to Búrfell past the hydro-electric power station. Drive close to Hekla, Iceland’s most active volcano and visit the beautiful gorge Gjáin and the Hjálparfoss waterfall.

Day 5 REYKJAVIK - CITY SIGHTSEEING TOUR (B)
Return to Reykjavík for a sightseeing tour. An optional tour to the Blue Lagoon is available in the afternoon.



Day 6 & 7 REYKJAVÍK (B)
Free time in the capital with optional excursions including Westman Islands, Akureyri - Lake Mývatn and the West Coast Tour.

Day 8 DEPARTURE (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure. Transfer by bus to the Keflavik Airport.
