Capercaillie & Black Grouse Hunt 2006

Norway

Exclusive 5-day Package with 3 days of Hunting

in the renowned Finnskogen Region!

September 10 - 30, 2006

Capercaillie - Trophies Ingrid Shumway

We are pleased to offer this very exclusive hunt for Europe's most prized game birds, the black grouse (tetrao tetrix) and capercaillie (tetrao urogallus). The latter is the biggest and most sought after game bird in Europe. The beautiful Finnskogen region in Norway, north-east of Oslo and along the Swedish border, is famous for its beautiful forests and abundance of capercaillie, black grouse and hazel grouse (bonasa bonasia). The vast forest land is sure to offer one of the best Capercaillie hunts in the world!

Day 1 ARRIVAL OSLO - FINNSKOGEN
Individual arrival at the new Oslo Gardermoen Airport. Pick up an optional rental car and drive north towards Kirkenær and Skasenden. Perhaps you wish to make the journey from the airport by local bus to Svullrya. Your host will meet and welcome you. Short transfer to the hunting ground and homestead "Lovlia" in the Finnskogen region, northeast of Oslo near the Swedish border.

Time to unwind and relax before dinner is served at the family homestead. Over coffee or tea you will get to know your host family and chef "Mom" Oddbjörg.

Oddbjörg will not only prepare delicious meals for the duration of your stay, she might also delight you with playing traditional Norwegian folk songs on her accordion - a very special treat indeed! Overnight stay in your comfortable, fully equipped, and cozy cabin at "Lovlia" for the next four days.

Day 2 - 4 HUNT
The next three days you will hunt for Capercaillie and Black grouse. Set out early in the morning after a hearty breakfast into the pristine old forest with your enthusiastic and experienced guide and one of the best, award-winning capercaillie dogs in all of Scandinavia!

You may feel like no one else has ever set foot into these old forests, covered with blueberry, cranberry and heather. Hear the black cock at play in the first morning light.

Your hunting dog Molli, an award winning Finnish Spitz - the national dog of Finland - will be hard at work! The Finnish Spitz is an expert bird dog in finding animals in the trees, especially black grouse and capercaillie! They have a great sound when animals are treeing and are superb in flushing wood grouse. Your experienced guide will listen for the bark of the dog - recognizing each sound. There is nothing more exciting then following the sound of the barking dog and sneaking up on the Capercaillie nestled in the tree or taking off like a stealth fighter!

Some days you might enjoy the lunch break in the forest around a cozy camp fire. While the coffee is brewing, you will be roasting delicious Norwegian bacon and sausage over the open fire. After the lunch break, set out for the afternoon hunt. This evening, enjoy the hospitality of your hosts, and the delicious traditional Norwegian dinner at the cabin, prepared by your host. Overnight at your cozy cabin at Lovlia.

Day 5 RETURN TO OSLO
Breakfast at the lodge. After breakfast departure from "Lovlia". Enjoy the scenic drive via Kirkenær to the Oslo Gardermoen Airport, or return by public bus Oslo Gardermoen Airport.

Your exclusive hunt for capercaillie on this very exclusive Family Estate has come to an end. Hopefully you will return with one of the much-prized game bird, fond memories of your hunting experience and your warm and hospitable Norwegian hosts.
