MOOSE HUNT IN NORWAY

Exclusive 5-day Package with 3 days of hunting

around Losby and the Losby Estate!

 Hunting Season: October 05 - 31, 2006

Norway is a country rich in hunting and fishing opportunities. The vast areas of forests and mountains offer large numbers of moose, wild reindeer, deer, hare, black grouse, capercaillie and other large woodland birds.

Hunting is an important outdoor recreation activity for many Norwegians; Norway's annual moose hunt is a national passion for thousands of Norwegians and has been a tradition in Norway for more than 2000 years! We are pleased to offer this exclusive hunt for Europe's largest and most prized deer, the Norwegian moose, or in Norwegian 'Elg."

The beautiful Losby region in Norway, only a short drive from the center of Oslo, is famous for its beautiful forests and abundance of wildlife such as moose, roe deer, black grouse and hazel grouse.

Our exclusive moose hunt is by invitation from the land owners and the land management. Guests join the local hunting team, comprised of the land owners, forest managers and guides for a truly traditional and unforgettable Norwegian "Jakt"!

Aside of the experience of hunting with local landowners whose roots go back for centuries, the hunters have the pleasure of staying in one of Norway's most renowned and historic hotels, the Losby Gods Manor.

In the heart of the beautiful countryside, you will enter the age-old traditions dating back to 1850. The old estate has gently been blended with modern trends and harmonic balance. The facilities are harmoniously blended with tasteful architecture, testing and breaking new boundaries framed by the quiet enormity of nature. Your stay at Losby Manor is truly a Journey back in Time.

Steeped in over 150 years of history and tradition, hunting around the large country estate of Losby Gods has been the oldest of traditions. Kings and noblemen came to the Estate to hunt. King Haakon VII often visited Losby Manor and always went hunting on the vast estate of over 10000 acres of pristine forest and natural woodlands.
It is this historic and peaceful setting in which the hunter can relax and enjoy the tranquility and high level of hospitality after a days hunt.

Enjoy dinner at the award-winning fine-dining restaurant; the chef will be happy to prepare the prize of the hunt or the harvest of the ocean, combined with delicacies of the garden, complimented by gourmet cheeses, desserts and the wines of connoisseurs. The vast forest land and the warm Norwegian hospitality of your hosts
is sure to offer one of the best Moose hunts in Europe!

THE MOOSE HUNT
We are very pleased to be able to offer this exclusive hunt for the Norwegian moose combined with a stay at the historic Losby Gods, dating back to 1850. This vast and pristine Estate of forestland surrounding Losby Gods mansion features some of the best hunting grounds in all of Norway for moose. Famed for its abundant and stable population of Norwegian elk, the forest has only been hunted by family, friends and invited guests. We feel very privileged to be able to offer this truly exclusive hunt for moose in Norway's unspoiled nature with some of the best guides and their hunting dog.

The moose hunt is done by hunting teams, which are allowed a specified number and categories of animals. The permits vary from year to year, but typically there are between 13 - 15 permits for moose on this estate. The team has hunted here for many decades; they know their land and the moose, and hold this annual hunt in the highest of Norwegian tradition.

The hunters will be picked up at the hotel in the morning and transported back to the hotel after the hunt in the late afternoon.  The guest hunters join an existing hunting team, which assist the guest hunter as much as needed, and try to make the hunt as fruitful and pleasant for the guests as possible. One of the guests may at each time walk with the hunting guide and the hunting dog, the Norwegian Elkhound.

The team can take up to 4 hunters at the same time, but we recommend that there are no more than 2 guest - hunters at a time.

Hunting season: 05 Oct - 01 November 2006

Hunting area: 2500 ha of forest land with excellent moose population.

Permits: The hunting team has 13 - 15 permits for each hunting season.

Hunting team: Landowners, forest managers and guides. Usually there are around ten members, including the guest hunters.

The drive: One guest hunter may walk with the lead guide and the hunting dog at all times; the remaining team will post in strategic places with excellent shooting positions.

The Hunting dog: Norwegian Elkhound*

*From his ancient heritage as a hunting and guard dog companion to the Vikings, the Norwegian Elkhound is a fearless hunter of moose and other big game in Scandinavia. This scent hound is a sturdy, medium-sized, gray dog which remains relatively unchanged in breed type for thousands of years. This hardy, intelligent dog is fiercely loyal to his master while maintaining his independence.
